Auto Accident with Entrapment on Bypass, West Caln Township

At 1534 hours on Wednesday June 17th, 2015, the Sadsburyville Fire Company was dispatched to the Route 30 Bypass eastbound at mile marker 268.8 for an auto accident with entrapment. Engine 31-1 (FF/EMT Sly) made the response minutes after dispatch with a crew of four.

Brandywine Medic 93 was the first to arrive and confirmed heavy entrapment and the accident to be in the westbound lanes. Engine 31-1 arrived and established Bypass Command. Fire police were requested to shut down the westbound lanes at Airport Road and additional ambulances were requested for numerous patients.

Sadsburyville Firefighters went into service with Hurst hydraulic rescue tools to open a vehicle involved for patient packaging. Additional crews arrived and assisted with extrication. Just 13 minutes after the time of arrival, the extrication was complete. Engine 31-2 arrived and blocked oncoming traffic in the westbound lanes for scene safety.

Wagontown Rescue 35 assisted with fluid control and scene clean up. It was determined the incident was in West Caln Township and the scene was turned over to the Wagontown Fire Company. A total of 4 ambulances transported patients to local hospitals for further evaluation.
