| On September 14th, 2007, at around 20:46 the Sadsburyville and Parkesburg Fire Companies along with Pomeroy Ambulance 29-1 were dispatched to the 500 of Pebble Lane in the Quarry Ridge section of Sadsbury Township for a reported elevator rescue. The homeowner reported to the Chester County 911 Center that their 17 year old son who was quadriplegic was using the elevator when it stop working trapping him in between the 2nd and 1st floor of the residence.
Chief Supplee responded at 20:48 and was advised of the reports given to the Chester County 911 Center. Shortly after Engine 31-2 responded with Deputy Chief Reynolds on board and a crew of five and arrived to find the chief already investigating the scene. It was determined that the rescue would still be needed as the patient was truly stuck between the second and first floors of the residence.
Assistant Chief Trader arrived on scene and handled the communication between the chief in side and the man power outside. The Sadsburyville Chiefs and Firefighter/EMT Sly determined that the motor for the elevator quit working and that they would need to call the manufacturer of the elevator for assistance.
Firefighter/EMT Sly made the call to the company and received their on call voice mail. Firefighter/EMT Sly even tried a second time but with no success. Rescue 28 arrived by this time and it was determined by Chief Supplee to extricate the patient from the elevator. Rescue 28's ladder "The Little Giant" was requested by Chief Supplee after failed attempts to stick an attic ladder to the elevator. The little giant was brought in and put into place by Parkesburg Lieutenant Schreiber along with a backboard. Crews worked together to help extricate the patient sliding the patient onto the backboard and free from the elevator. The parents were happy to see their son unharmed, luckily there wasn't a need for Ambulance 29-1. Shortly around 21:25 the situation was placed under control releasing all the units on scene. |
