| On September 10th, 2007, at around 14:22 hours the Wagontown, Martins Corner, White Horse and Atglen Fire Companies along with Medic 93 were all dispatched to the 200 block of Old Wilmington Road in West Caln for a reported house fire. Assistant Chief 35 Ziegler responded shortly after dispatch and was advised by the Chester County 911 center of several calls on it reporting fire from a second story window. At the same time Engines 35 and Lancaster Engine 4-9-1 went enroute.
Engine 35 caught a glitch in the dispatch and advised Assistant Chief Ziegler of station 31 not being dispatched. Assistant Chief 35 Ziegler advised the fireboard to add Station 31 onto the assignment along with a first alarm tanker task force due to insufficient water in that part of West Caln.
Captain 28 Hume was the first arriving officer on scene and advised Assistant Chief 35 Ziegler of a working fire with heavy fire through the roof. Assistant Chief 35 Ziegler advised Captain 28 Hume to setup Command 35.
Shortly after Lancaster County Engine 4-9-1 was the first arriving unit quickly deploying two hand lines to attack the fire. Receiving reports from civilians on scene Engine 4-9-1's crew advised Assistant 35 Ziegler of one elderly woman possibly trapped somewhere in the dwelling. Firefighters Jay Able and Bill Dill searched the dwelling finding the patient on the second floor.
Assistant Chief Ziegler arrived and assumed the operating end of the call running the interior. Engine 31-2 responded shortly after dispatch and was advised by the command to pick up the supply line going to Engine 35. Chief 26 Winters had water supply operations advising the tankers to hook into Engine 31-2 and supply them.
Command 35 advised Chester to move standbys into everyone's house due to most of the trucks man power being tied up at the scene and a couple of hours later the fire was put under control by Captain 28 Hume with all hands working. Interior crews worked hard and well together doing salvage and overhaul.
Engine 31-2 was advised to break down the supply line by the command and have their crews report to the scene to assist with repacking hose lines on other companies trucks. Shortly after finishing packing hose lines back onto the various pieces of apparatus Engine 31-2 was released by the command. |
