| On July 21st, the Sadsburyville Fire Company joined with the Westwood Fire Company for a Fire Prevention presentation at the Academy Kids in the Highland Corporate Center.
Battalion Chief Erik Brecht presented several topics to the children and faculty. Firefighter Brad Rust donned his Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including an air pack to show the children what a Firefighter looks like, and not to be afraid. Firefighter Rust, with cheers and laughter from the children, crawled around the children in full gear and air pack to see how a search in smoky conditions was done.
During the prevention, two students volunteered to demonstrate how to Stop-Drop-Roll. In addition, several students and teachers donned full gear, and experienced how heavy the equipment and air packs are.
Following the presentations, the students visited the crews standing-by at their respective fire apparatus outside. Both student and teacher had an opportunity to sit in the trucks, see all the equipment, and ask questions. At the end of the event, each child received a custom Sadsburyville Fire Prevention fire helmet. |
