January Training Sessions In Review

By Fire Chief Adam Grossman
January 30, 2016

During the month of January the Sadsburyville Fire Company conducted four Monday night training sessions with all sessions having great attendance.

The beginning of the month started with Radio training due to the new radios that were placed in service on January 4th, 2016 across Chester County. Firefighters utilized the radios with and without their SCBA on to get used to the new radios in all atmospheres. A power point presentation was giving by Lieutenant Loesch and discussion and scenarios were reviewed on the radio operation as well as our operating procedures in regards to radios.

Another night of training included annual gear checks and gear review. The fire officers checked everybody's turnout gear to ensure everybody's safety when wearing it. All gear was to be no older then 10 years and in good condition. Some gear did not pass the checks and had to be removed from service. A order was placed to bring everybody's turnout gear up to date.

Additionally Firefighters spent another night focusing on physical training. Firefighters held a friendly game of dodge ball with their full turnout gear and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus(SCBA) on. The drill began with everybody completing the 60 second drill of donning their SCBA and as they donned all of their gear/SCBA entirely they could begin playing dodge ball. If you were hit by a ball then you had to do 5 jumping jacks to stay in the game. Firefighters continued with this until the "last man was standing", meaning the last person to have air available in their cylinder. In the end Firefighter Zwick came in 1st place, Firefighter Pearce in 2nd place and Chief Grossman in 3rd place.

The last night of training to conclude the month of January was equipment review. Firefighters do apparatus checks on both of our Fire Engines and reviewed the operation of the different variety of equipment we carry.
