MRI Safety Training at Lancaster General Health Center
By Fire Chief Adam Grossman
December 14, 2015
Firefighters conducted weekly training at the Lancaster General Health Center located at 950 Octorara Trail in Parkesburg, Pennsylvania. At this location LGH has an Urgent Care Center that is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM. In addition there is a an outpatient lab and X-ray service available.
The focus of the night's training was MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging ) safety and responder awareness. In recent months we were contacted by LGH MRI Staff offering us training on their equipment and what to do in the event of an emergency. Firefighters were amazed by the amount of power a MRI machine gives out and the dangers involved with the machines if you are not aware of your surroundings.
The training session was roughly one hour which involved a video presentation and tour of the MRI center. Thank you to the LGH staff for educating our responders on the hazards associated with their building.
