| On Friday, May 16th, 2014 our neighbors at the Westwood Fire Company were notified by the Federal Emergency Management Agency that a grant applications submitted to the Fiscal Year 2013 "SAFER," or Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant was awarded.
The Sadsburyville Fire Company is fortunate to be a partner in this grant award!
The grant funding will aid in the retention of current firefighters and the recruitment of new personnel.
The grant was developed by Westwood Battalion Chief Sly in July, 2013 and submitted to the Department of Homeland Security's SAFER program. The funding will allow for three specific causes; a recruitment campaign to be targeted to residents of our local communities, incentive awards and duty uniforms for recruits, and funding to renovate the Westwood fire station to include new bunk facilities.
The total amount of the grant is $37,880 which will be expended over the next four years. The grant was awarded with only two other awards in the 19th Round of the award process. Throughout the United States, only 70 Recruitment and Retention applications were awarded from this highly competitive program; with more than 600 requests for funding.
We look forward to partnering with our neighbors and colleagues at the Westwood Fire Company to work collaboratively to improve upon our efficient and existing services to the community. We have been fortunate to have a long-standing working relationship with Westwood and currently share several members who dedicate their time as volunteers to both stations.
Grants of this type help the fire company continue to remain a very cost effective service to the community, and we would like to thank all of those who were instrumental in the success of this grant award.
If you are interested in volunteering and serving the community as an emergency responder, please stop by the Westwood Fire Company or Sadsburyville Fire Company on Monday evenings or contact your local fire company. |
