Storm Keeps Sadsburyville Volunteers Busy

By Sadsburyville Fire Company No. 1
February 5, 2014

On February 5th, 2014 a storm hit the east coast causing a lot of ice onto area roads, power lines and structures. It was to no surprise to our volunteers that during this time we would be busy responding to emergencies.

In a 4 day span of this storm, volunteers ran 16 calls braving the icy roads and cold temperatures. Calls for service ranged anywhere from structure fires to accidents and reports of trees down on houses or power wires. Fortunately during these incidents there were no reported firefighter or civilian injuries or deaths.

At 1300 hours on this day the Sadsburyville Fire Company and an engine from the Keystone Valley Fire Department were dispatched to the 100 block of Jodi Drive in Sadsbury Township for the report of a tree on a house, causing structural damage and having a threat of a fire due to active fires in the fireplaces with damaged chimneys. Chief 31, Deputy 31, QRS 31 with 1 EMT, Engine 31-1 with 6 firefighters and Engine 31-2 with 4 firefighters all made the response.

Arriving on location minutes later Chief Grossman assumed Jodi Drive Command and assessed the situation. Engine 31-1's crew walked to the house up a long driveway blocked by a down tree and secured the hazards being caused by the fire places as well as securing the utilities to the house. Engine 31-2's crew assisted with removing a very large tree across the long driveway to get the homeowner out to a place of shelter and allowing responders into the driveway.

Units operated on the scene for just under an hour before being released by command. Belfor was notified to assist the homeowner with property restoration.

Units: Engine 31-1, Engine 31-2, QRS 31, Command 31

Mutual Aid: Engine 08-1
