Engine 31-1 Flow Testing
By Fire Chief Adam Grossman
March 21, 2011
On Monday March 21st, 2011 volunteers of the Sadsburyville Fire Company gathered for their weekly training session. Tonight we wanted to accomplish flow testing the pre-connected hand lines on Engine 31-1 as well as advancing techniques.
The flow tested was completed by pulling each pre-connected hand line and placing a line gauge on the end to tell us what pressure we are reaching at the nozzle and recording the pressure giving at the pump panel. Our new nozzles on Engine 31-1 are 50 PSI nozzles. There are four pre-connected hand lines, 150' out of the front bumper, (2) 200' cross lays and a 300' off of the rear hose bed. Members also determined what pressure they felt comfortable operating with in the event of using these lines to extinguish a fire.
Also reviewed were advancing techniques. All of our hand lines on Engine 1 and Engine 2 are packed minute man style for easy deployment. Thank you to Christiana Past Deputy Chief William Meadowcroft for assisting us with our training operations of the night.
