| On Thursday July, 15th, 2010 10 of our active firefighters received their new firefighting gear which was ordered earlier this year. The purchase of these 10 complete sets of this new gear was made possible with a Federal Grant we received in March of 2010.
The Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program is an important component of the Administration's larger, coordinated effort to strengthen the Nation's overall level of preparedness and ability to respond to fire and fire related hazards.
These grant awards aim to enhance first responders' ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first-responder personnel, with respect to fire-related hazards. Using a competitive process overseen by fire service subject matter experts, AFG grants are awarded to applicants whose requests best address the priorities of the AFG program.
The new fire gear was delivered from The Fire Store this past week. Each firefighter received a new firefighting turnout coat, firefighting turnout pants with suspenders, a pair of firefighting gloves, a nomex fire hood, new fire helmets and leather fire boots.
New LED flashlights were also purchased from DP Fire and Safety. The LED flashlights came complete with charging systems for each firefighter and will provide long bulb life and produce high energy light.
This mark the first time in the 90 year history of the Sadsburyville Fire Company that each active firefighter has turn out gear not more than 5 years of age.
The cost to outfit each firefighter with the equipment provided in this grant is approximately $2,300. We would have not been able to complete this project without the assistance of Federal funding. |
