| On Monday, August 10th, 2009 the Sadsburyville and Westwood Fire Companies got together for a joint training session on foam firefighting operations.
Foam is utilized for two different types of firefighting. Class "A" foams lower the surface tension of water which assists in the wetting and saturation of ordinary combustibles with water. This can be for structural firefighting, aiding in suppression and preventing reignition.
Class "B" foams are utilized for flammable liquid fires. Since both of our companies are primary responders to both the Chester County Airport and the Keystone Helicopter Manufacturing facility, aircraft fuels are a target hazard in our area which we must train to mitigate in the case of emergency.
Thanks to Westwood Fire Company for hosting this training session. |
