Landing Zone Operations And EMS Training
By Battalion Chief Adam Grossman
September 15, 2008
On Monday September 15th, 2008 the Sadsburyville volunteers had their weekly Monday night drill. The topic of tonight's drill was Landing Zone safety operations for when helicopters are landed for emergencies as well as back boarding and carrying of patients.
First crews found a good landing zone on flat ground with little debris. Then they made a 100' x 100' area marked off with cones where a helicopter would land. Then Battalion Chief Grossman reviewed with the members proper Landing Zone safety operations; which included radio procedures, crowd control and sweeping of debris.
In addition EMS Captain Audette taught our members how to properly strap a person onto a long back board and the three different ways of carrying a backboard with 2, 3, 4 and 6 people.
Junior Firefighter Entress places a cone in the field.
Firefighter Reed sweeps the field for debris after placing a cone in the field.
