| On Sunday August 10th, 2008 after a day of spotting storms throughout Sadsbury Township, at 1825 hours the Sadsburyville Fire Company and Pomeroy Fire Company Ambulance Division were dispatched to Lincoln Highway and Old Wilmington Road in Sadsbury Township for the reports of an auto accident with unknown injuries. Chief Supplee responded immediately and was told conflicting reports of two vehicles involved and possibly people injured.
Chief Supplee and Battalion Chief Grossman arrived simultaneously to find a two vehicle accident with two people injured. Due to multiple injured persons, Chief Supplee requested a second Ambulance to the scene from the Pomeroy Fire Company.
After further evaluation it was determined one of the subjects was confined inside of their vehicle and would need to be cut out. Chief Supplee assumed Lincoln Highway Command, Battalion Chief Grossman assumed the Operations role, and requested a Rescue from the Parkesburg Fire Company and a Paramedic from Brandywine Hospital.
Engine 31-2 arrived and crews began using cribbing, blocks of wood, to stabilize the car from further movement during disentanglement. Crews began removing glass from the vehicle and setting up the Hurst rescue tools as well.
QRS 31 arrived and gained access to the vehicle through one of the doors and began assessing the patient that was confined inside the vehicle.
Sadsburyville crews removed two doors and had half of the roof cut off upon the arrival of Rescue 28. Rescue 28 arrived and finished cutting the roof with their O-Cutters and began removing the driver side "B-Post" with their MOC II Cutters.
The patient was quickly extricated from the vehicle, placed onto a backboard and transferred to Ambulance 29-2.
Sadsburyville and Parkesburg crews remained on the scene until the tow truck arrived to remove the vehicles and assisted with cleaning the roadway.
Parkesburg Fire Company Fire Police had Lincoln Highway shut down at Lincoln Highway and Octorara Road and Fire Police Officer B. Profeto had traffic diverted at Lincoln Highway and First Avenue.
Lincoln Highway Command made the assignment available at 1913 hours.
Shortly before responding to this accident, the Sadsburyville Fire Company and an Engine from the Pomeroy Fire Company were dispatched to the 100 block of Broad Meadow Drive in the Sadsbury Village section of Sadsbury Township for an automatic fire alarm. Chief Supplee arrived and found no problem and cleared the assignment 4 minutes after dispatch. |
