By Battalion Chief Adam Grossman
February 25, 2008

In the early morning of Monday February 25th, 2008 at 0006 hours the Sadsburyville Fire Company, Pomeroy Ambulance Division and a Rescue from the Parkesburg Fire Company were alerted to the unit block of Morris Lane in Sadsbury Township for a Residential Rescue. Further reports revealed that a two year old was locked in the bathroom of their house after the door knob broke off of the door.

Engine 31-2 arrived on location and quickly extricated the child from the locked door with no further damage done to the door by using a set of irons, which are commonly used in forcible entry. The Parkesburg and Pomeroy Fire Companies were then recalled as their services were not needed at the scene. Sadsburyville units cleared the scene at 0016 hours.

Just after returning to station from the Residential Rescue, a box alarm was struck on Box 44-03 in the Country Club Valley section of Valley Township for the reports of a house fire assisting the Westwood Fire Company. The resident claimed there house was quickly filling with smoke and an electrical smell was throughout the house.

Engine 31-2 responded with 5 personnel and was on the scene six minutes after the time of dispatch followed by Engine 31-1 with three personnel.

Engine 31-2 had no smoke or fire showing from the exterior of the row home upon their arrival. Engine 31-2's crews began investigating the situation with a thermal imaging camera. Engine 31-1 staged at the nearest hydrant in case a water supply needed to be established. Deputy Chief Reynolds assumed Country Club Valley Command.

Westwood units arrived and staged while the situation was being investigated.

It was undetermined exactly what was causing the haze and electrical smell, but there were a couple possibilities. The situation was quickly under control.

Later in the early evening at approximately 1900 hours, the Sadsburyville Fire Company was dispatched yet once again for a reported house fire on Box 43-31 in the 400 block of Victoria Drive in Coatesville City assisting the Coatesville City Fire Department.

Engine 31-2 responded with four personnel shortly after dispatch and was the third arriving Engine which was given the orders to stage at the nearest fire hydrant in case the need of a water supply was to be established.

Once again crews were investigating a smoke condition inside of a row home. Sadsburyville crews remained on the scene a short time and assisted Coatesville with the investigation and repacking of supply hose onto Ladder 43.

Units: Engine 31-2, Engine 31-1, QRS 31
