Training is an important asset to any organization. You wouldn't send a race car driver onto a track without giving him a license, so why would you send a human into a building without getting him certified. Volunteers put numerous hours into training annually. Certain requirements are to be met each year that are mandated by the local or federal government. Training consists of in house or formal training. In house training means our members gather every Monday night and review a certain topic of the night. Many topics include hose line advancement, ladders, ropes and knots, pumping of water from fixed or remote locations, building construction, search and rescue, etc. In house training is conducted and supervised by the fire and EMS officers of the Sadsburyville Fire Company and is planned out by the training officer.
In addition members can take formal training through official fire schools or any kind of educational institute. All training is paid for by the company. Currently the company has all active members certified in the National Incident Management System at 4 different levels. There are two active paramedics and 13 active Emergency Medical Technicians. All active fire personnel are certified at the level of Fire 1 and fifteen of those people are nationally recognized at the level of Firefighter 1. Annually members participate in classes that are required such as CPR/AED, Blood Bourne Pathogens, and Hazardous Materials Awareness and operations.
Without training, our people would not be able to provide the most efficient and effective service possible to the citizens of our communities. We thank all of our volunteers for sacrificing numerous hours each year away from their families and friends to better their selves for our organization. We are not only bettering our chance of survival in an emergency but we are also bettering yours.
