On Tuesday July 24th, 2012 at 0300 hours the Westwood Fire Company, Sadsburyville Fire Company and the next closest water tender from the East Brandywine Fire Company were dispatched to the unit block of Saint George Street in the Quiet Village section of Valley Township for the report of smoke in a dwelling. Engine 31-1 led by Chief Grossman with a crew of 3 was the first suppression piece on the street responding just 5 minutes after the time of dispatch.

Westwood Fire Chief McWilliams arrived on location at 0311 hours with smoke showing, with what appeared to be a working house fire. Chief McWilliams established Saint George Street Command and advised Engine 31-1 to take the front of the house and run a 1-3/4" 150' front bumper hose line to the front door for suppression efforts.

Upon further investigation Chief McWilliams discovered a civilian trapped inside the house and redirected the crew of Engine 31-1 to go into rescue operations. Fire Chief Grossman and Firefighter Messner masked up at the front door and made entry into the dwelling where the civilian was located. The two worked together to remove the civilian from the dwelling and into the front lawn. Once out of the hot zone, Chief McWilliams and Chief Grossman immediately began resuscitation efforts on the civilian.

Ambulance 44 arrived at 0313 and took over the EMS operation. Westwood Assistant Chief Scott assumed fire ground operations and all units operated on FD-1.

Chief Grossman, Firefighter Dague and Deputy Chief Supplee then made entry back into the dwelling with the hose line and suppressed the fire located in a rear bedroom. Crews opened up and hydra ventilated out of a bedroom window while additional crews placed a positive pressure fan in service at the front door.

The fire was quickly placed under control at 0325 hours.

Ambulance 44 and Medic 46-1 transported the civilian to a local hospital.

East Brandywine Firefighters assisted in the EMS operation and ran scene lighting in and out of the house.

Sadsburyville units cleared the scene at 0602 hours.

Great job to all the volunteers involved in the operation of this morning. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the involved Fire Marshall's Offices.

On Thursday April 5th, 2007 the Sadsburyville Fire Company was alerted for an engine to assist the Westwood Fire Company for the reports of heavy fire showing to the rear of a residence in the Quiet Village section of Valley Township.  Engine 31-2 responded within 4 minutes of dispatch with Past Chief James Supplee chauffeuring, Deputy Chief Dave Reynolds in the officer's seat and Firefighter/EMT Bill Dill aboard.  Additional reports gave the fire to be a working fire and a possibility of a person trapped inside.

Engine 31-2 was the first arriving unit and went into service with an 1-3/4" hand line.  Firefighter/EMT Dill and Deputy Reynolds entered the structure and not more then ten feet inside the front door, Firefighter/EMT Dill felt a bodily figure lying on the ground.  Both men immediately grabbed the body and carried him out to safety.

Awaiting Emergency Medical Crews began cardiopulmonary resuscitation but unfortunately the patient had expired on scene.  Good job to both men for their heroic acts for performance "Above and Beyond the Call of Duty".

On March 5th, 2007 QRS Lieutenant Scott Weaver was pulling his normal shift at Pomeroy Ambulance when he was alerted for a vehicle accident with a car into water off of Strasburg Road in East Fallowfield Township.  QRS Lieutenant Weaver arrived on location and found a vehicle submerged in water with the assumption of a body still inside.

Without hesitation QRS Lieutenant Weaver and East Fallowfield Police Officer Simmons paddled in a paddle boat out to the car.  Once at the car QRS Lieutenant Weaver broke in the glass and did a sweep of the car.  While sweeping he grabbed a body out of the car and paddled back into shore to awaiting emergency medical crews.  Cardiopulmanory resuscitation was performed and the patient was transported to Brandywine Hospital.  Thank you to Scott Weaver for performance "Above and Beyond the Call of Duty".

On January 23rd, 2005, the Sadsburyville Fire Company was alerted of a reported house fire in the Lincoln Crest section of Sadsbury Township.  Upon the arrival of Engine 31-2 under the command of Deputy Chief Dave Reynolds and staffed with Captain Mike Trader and Lieutenant Tony Profeto, Chester County Fire Radio advised there is a possibility of the resident still trapped inside.  Without hesitation Deputy Reynolds and Captain Trader entered the structure and knocked down the small fire in the living room.  After the fire was out the crew did a quick search of the residence to search for the homeowner who was supposedly inside.  The homeowner was located and drug out of the structure to awaiting emergency medical crews.  The homeowner was flown out by helicopter to a local burn center for treatment.  The victim is alive and well now currently living in Florida.

In September of 2005 Deputy Chief Dave Reynolds and Captain Mike Trader were awarded for their heroic actions by receiving the William H. "Pop" Winters Medal of Valor Award from the Chester County Board of Commissioners.  They both received a plaque and a pin for their uniform and were recognized for performance "Above and Beyond the Call of Duty".
