On Friday June 23rd, 2017 the Sadsburyville Fire Company received notification of federal funding through a federal grant program. The Assistance to Firefighter Grant program assist fire departments with funding on several types of projects such as operations, safety, health and apparatus.

Today's award was in the amount of $86,800 for operations and safety. These funds will be to replace our aging self contained breathing apparatus.

Self contained breathing apparatus or SCBA are essential to firefighters to perform their duties in IDLH or immediate danger to life or health environments. Example if a persons is trapped inside of a burning structure, we would not be able to reach them and potentially save their life without the SCBA equipment.

AFG awards 95% of the total award amount and our fire company funds will have to fund the last 5%. In future months we will bid out, purchase and train with our new SCBA before being placed into service.

The importance of this program has been essential to our operation as this is the 4th grant we have received in just under 6 years. In addition we received a 5th grant as part of a regional project. Thank you John Sly for writing this grant and assisting with securing funds for our fire company's operation and safety of our personnel.
