On Friday May 5th, 2017 at 1416 the box alarm went out for the area of Merchant Street and 8th Avenue reporting smoke from the top of a house. The caller was a neighbor and unsure of the address.

Ladder 41-2 arriving first due located the structure and reported an attic fire. The Engine arrived, established a water supply and crews went interior.

Engine 31-1 arrived as the RIT and set up on side A with equipment for staging. Sadsburyville Firefighters pulled a back up line for the RIT and assured ground ladders were thrown to all sides of the structure.

Firefighters from Coatesville, Coatesville VA, Thorndale and Modena worked together to open the 2nd floor ceilings and roof to expose the fire and extinguish it. Battalion Chief Patton held the Merchants Street Command.
