Large Woods Fire off of East Drive, Valley Township

On Sunday April 19th, 2015 at 0821 hours the Westwood Fire Company was dispatched for a woods fire to the rear of East Glencrest Road in Valley Township. Kimberton Utility 61 was on their way to the Public Safety Training Center in South Coatesville when they discovered the fire and reported it to the Chester County Radio Room.

Chief Grossman arrive on location at 0833 hours and assumed East Drive Command. It was apparent there was a working woods fire but access issues were present. After walking deep into the woods, it was determined there was 4-5 acres of woods on fire. Additional ATV, Brush Trucks and Engine Companies were requested to respond to bring the fire under control.

Area fire companies worked worked for nearly two hours until the fire was placed under control at 0958 hours with all hands working. ATV's from Westwood, East Brandywine and Po-Mar-Lin shuttled water into the woods to get all of the hot spots, firefighters with "Indian Tanks" also assisted. Brush trucks from Wagontown and Modena were also on the scene. Final units cleared the scene at 1230 hours.

While on the scene of this fire, Engine 31-2 assisted the Wagontown Fire Company with a second call at the intersection of Old Wilmington Road and West Kings Highway for an auto accident.
