2015 Begins with an Underground Fire

By Fire Chief Adam Grossman
January 1, 2015

On January 1st, 2015 at 1704 the Sadsburyville Fire Company was dispatched to the unit block of Wick Drive in Sadsbury Township for a reported trash fire. Engine 31-1 and Engine 31-2 made the response at 1709 hours with a crew of 7 volunteer firefighters.

Chief Grossman went on location at 1708 hours and found smoke coming from two storm drains. It was determined there was an active fire in the storm drain underneath of the cart road and possibly could be a Peco electric issue, previous to this being dispatched there was a power loss in the village of Sadsburyville.

Engine 31-1 and Engine 31-2 remained on location until a Peco representative arrived on location to advise of the situation. After the threat of a power issue was isolated, Engine 31-1 went into service extinguishing the fire using an 1-3/4" hand line and a large diamater hose discharge to flood the drain pipe.

The fire was under control at 1804 hours and the company returned to quarters a short time later. This was the first call for service for 2015. In 2014 the company responded to 168 fire/rescue emergencies which was the second busiest year ever in the company's history.
