On Saturday November 29th, Sadsburyville Firefighters Brad Rust, Lieutenant Chris McCarthy, and Captain Erik Brecht manned the intersection of Business Route 30 and Old Wilmington Road in front of Harry's the Neighborhood Place and collected "Boot Day" donations for our first annual food drive, to support our local food cupboard, and WMMR's Preston & Steve "Camp Out For Hunger" campaign. Throughout the morning, the crew collected over $1,300.00 in cash, and approximatly 100 pounds of canned goods. Several days following our Boot Day, event corrdinator McCarthy made special arrangements with Wegmans in Downingtown to order and purchase the most commonly needed items for the food banks. Assisted by Asst. Chief Dave Reynolds, we converged on Wegmans, and loaded our personal vehicles with all the food. On the same day, over 300 pounds of food was delivered to the Octorara Food Cupboard in Parkesburg.

On Thursday December 4th, Engine 31-1 loaded up with food and traveled to Southwest Philadelphia to the Xfinity Center to take part in WMMR's Preston & Steve "Camp Out For Hunger". Upon arrival, the crew was immediatly greeted by happy WMMR volunteers who unloaded over 1,100 pounds of food from Engine 31-1! Our crew was warmly greeted by WMMR staff members, and several photo opportunities were had. While there, our crew celebrated fellow member Shannon Reynolds's birthday, met a Phillies legend, and took part in many activities. Our goal next year is to more than double the amount of food donated to our local food cupboard and the WMMR campaign.

Thank you to all those individuals that helped fill our boots, and a special thank you to Fotis Petropoulos of Harry's, and Joe Brecht (Capt. Brecht's father) for the warm drinks and food while we collected funds in the cold. Next year will be another huge success!
