Late Saturday night came a serious accident for the Sadsburyville Fire Company Volunteers. The call was received around 23:41 for the eastbound Route 30 Bypass in the area of mile marker 268.7 for the reports of a vehicle accident with entrapment and was on fire. EMS from Keystone Valley and Westwood were also dispatched on this assignment.

Arriving within minutes, Ambulance 08 and Medic 344 reported the vehicle on fire, overturned and off to the side of the road. Fortunately, bystanders and an off-duty police officer was on scene prior to their arrival and removed the trapped occupant from the vehicle. Chief McCarthy arrived and established the Route 30 Bypass Command.

Rescue 31 and Rescue 44 arrived simultaneously, and firefighters worked together to quickly extinguish the blaze. The vehicle was fully involved with flames and was giving off explosions from the tires, shocks and fuel on fire. A front bumper hoseline was used from Rescue 31 and Rescue 44 used the front bumper hydraulic tools to open the car up and gain access to some of the fire.

EMS was on scene treating the patient that was pulled from the burning car. Fortunately, their injuries were not life threatening, and they were able to walk away from the accident with virtual minor injuries.

The fire was under control within minutes and Fling's Towing was on scene to tow the vehicle away. Fire Police from Sadsburyville and Keystone Valley had the Route 30 Bypass shutdown at Business Route 30 for the duration of the call.
