Structure Fire Assisting Westwood

On Tuesday December 29th, 2020 at 1648 hours, the Sadsburyville Fire Company for an Engine was dispatched to the 1500 block of Valley Road in Valley Township for a reported structure fire. This call was assisting the Westwood Fire Company a Tanker and Rescue from the Cochranville Fire Company were also dispatched.

Arriving at 1655 hours, Engine 44-5 reported a 2.5 story duplex with nothing showing. Firefighters went interior to find a haze of smoke in the basement and was later determined to be from a furnace that backfired. The backfire caused a smoke condition in both occupancies.

Engine 31-1 arrived at 1658 and firefighters monitored for carbon monoxide in the Charlie exposure. Finding 25 PPM of CO and a haze of smoke, Sadsburyville firefighters used positive pressure ventilation to ventilate that structure.

The situation was under control with all hands working at 1700 hours, Westwood Chief McWilliams held the Valley Road Command. The assignment was held to Station 44 and Engine 31-1.
