On June 26th, 2020 at 1228 hours, the Sadsburyville Fire Company was dispatched to the unit block of Newport Avenue in the Pomeroy section of Sadsbury Township for the reports of a basement on fire. Also dispatched on the first alarm assignment was the Keystone Valley Fire Department, Westwood and Wagontown Fire Companies.

Engine 44-5, with Chief 44, arrived first due and reported smoke showing from the residential dwelling. Westwood firefighters went in service with (2) 1-3/4" hose lines and made entry into the structure. Crews inside located a rapidly spreading fire in the basement and quickly extinguished it.

Additional firefighters from Sadsburyville and Keystone arrived and checked the house for occupants and began ventilation. Fortunately all occupants were able to escape the house at the time of fire. Positive pressure ventilation was set up at the main entrance to remove the smoke from the structure.

The fire was under control within 10 minutes of firefighters arriving. The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire. The home did not have working smoke alarms at the time of the fire.
