Members Attend Numerous Trainings

By Assistant Chief Adam Grossman
January 30, 2010

On Saturday January 31st, 2010 4 members of the Sadsburyville Fire Company attended training sessions in West Chester.

Firefighter Ray Zwick was part of a Truck Company operations class at the West Chester Burn Building put on by Traditions Training. Ray learned new search and rescue, ventilation and life safety techniques.

Firefighter Ron Reed attended a Hybrid Vehicle Awareness Class. Ron learned about the demand of new car models, especially those that are hybrid vehicles and the hazards associated with these cars in rescue and suppression situations. This class was put on by the Chester County training school.

In addition Assistant Chief Grossman and EMS Captain Audette attended a seminar put on by the Chester County Fire Marshall's office held at the Chester County Government Services Center. Adam and Mike learned about the operations of the local and state Fire Marshall Offices and what we can do as officers and firefighter to help make their job easier and how to continue our great working relationship.

There were also two guest speakers on hand in the afternoon to share Common Threads of the Fire Service and how we are killing our firefighters in the first couple minutes of structure fires based on their experiences. This seminar was put on by Chief Richard Bowers of the Montgomery County Fire Department of Maryland and Battalion Chief Jennie Collins of the Prince William County Fire Department of Virginia. The day was a huge success and a lot of knowledge and eye opening was taking away by the guest Chief speakers.

The Chester County Fire Marshall's Office hosted today's session. The State Police Fire Marshall's Office was also in attendance.
