Radio Training Conducted On Monday Night
By Assistant Chief Adam Grossman
January 11, 2010
On January 11th, 2010 members of the Sadsburyville Fire Company gathered for their bi-weekly drill night. Tonight members began by cleaning the fire house floors and bingo hall tables. Followed by that truck inventories were completed and power equipment was operated. To conclude the night a session on communications was conducted.
Each vehicle, Engine 31-2, QRS 31 and Command 31, are equipped with 3 types of radios. The first type is EFJohnson radios supplied by the county to communicate with the fire board and other units when we respond to and operate at calls. Secondly the three vehicles are all equipped with Kenwood communication radios that are automatically set to monitor FD-1, which is a fire ground channel that we operate on. Other channels can be used in this radio as well that are the conventional channels of the EFJohnson 800 system such as Interops, ITacs, FD/PD, Events, etc. Thirdly the vehicles are equipped with Highband radios to communicate with neighboring fire companies on their private channels when operating with them.
Assistant Chief Grossman reveiwed the operations of these radios as well as the SMU and MDC(Mobile Data Computers) systems. Thank you to all personnel that came out on this night to train.
Assistant Chief Grossman shows the different radios our units are equipped with.
Firefighter Piacentini and Miller look at the MDC as it was being demonstrated.
The MDC can give vital information to an incident and allow less radio traffic by status your unit from buttons.
