Just after midnight the Sadsburyville Fire Company for Engine 31-1 was dispatched to the Thorndale Fire Company to relocate. While enroute, Engine 31-1 with a crew of 4 firefighters was re-directed to respond to the scene as the second due fast team. Engine 31-1 operated on the scene with mutual aid fire companies were several hours.

The fire was located on Hazlewood Avenue in Caln Township, a Thorndale Fire Company local. Initial units arrived to find fire showing from the roof line of a two story duplex. Crews advanced several hose lines into the structure to expose the fire and douse the flames. At one point a mayday was activated but the firefighter was located and the building was evacuated. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshal's Office.
