By Fire Chief Adam Grossman
November 24, 2018

On the early morning of Saturday November 24th, 2018 the Sadsburyville Fire Company and Keystone Valley EMS were summoned to the 800 block of North Octorara Trail in Sadsbury Township for an auto accident. The call came in at 0206 and first responders immediately began to respond.

Four minutes after dispatch EMC-22 was driving past the accident and reported it to be serious in nature with multiple vehicles involved and 2 serious injuries. Based on this report, Medic 93-1 and Medic 93-2 were both dispatched to respond.

Ambulance 8-2 arrived on location and confirmed the report and began administering patient care. Due to the number of patients a second ambulance was also dispatched summoning Westwood EMS. This was the next closest ambulance available by automatic vehicle locater (AVL).

Engine 31-1 with a crew of 5 arrived with the Fire Chief and established the Route 10 CP and Chief Grossman assumed the Command. Engine 31-1’s crew investigated the vehicle for additional patients and ensured there was no entrapment. At this point there was a “walking wounded” patient and a second in serious condition.

Route 10 CP advised fire police to shut down Route 10 between Route 30 and Compass Road. Squad 31 covered the Route 10 and 30 intersection, 31-32 covered the Wawa Interchange at Route 10 and Utility 31 shut down Route 10 at Beacon Light Road.

Keystone Ambulance 8-2 and Medic 93-2 transported one patient to a local trauma center for further evaluation and treatment. Unfortunately a second patient succumbed to their injuries at the scene and Ambulance 44-1 was placed on scene available.

The Pennsylvania State Police were on location to investigate the accident and a specialized team was called in to assist. Engine 31-2 and Sadsburyville Fire Police remained on scene to assist with lighting until the investigation was complete.

Units: Engine 31-1, Engine 31-2, Utility 31, Squad 31, Chief 31

Mutual Aid: Ambulance 44-1, Ambulance 8-2, Medic 93-1, Medic 93-2, PSP Embreeville
