Aeromedical Evacuation from Pedatrian Struck, Sadsbury Township

By Fire Chief Adam Grossman
June 8, 2018

On June 8th, 2018 the Sadsburyville Fire Company and EMS were summoned to the Quarry Ridge section of Sadsbury Township for a pedestrian struck. Once on scene it was determined by EMS that a helicopter would be required to transport the patient to a local trauma center.

Engine 31-1 established a landing zone at the park adjacent to our property located on First Avenue in Sadsburyville. Firefighters waited for EMS to arrive and once the patient was stabilized, the patient was carried to a helicopter where they were flown to a local trauma center.

Helicopters are not used as much anymore because there is a trauma center inside of Chester County. Before Paoli Hospital became a trauma center it was quite frequent for helicopters to be used more. Generally now a helicopter is used to fly a patient to a specialized hospital needed for the care of the patient due to the severity of the injury or their age, example a Children's Trauma Center.
