Hazardous Materials Incident in West Caln

On Saturday April 14th, 2018 12:42 hours the Wagontown Fire Company was dispatched to the 100 Block of Mallard Drive for a gas leak outside. Chief 35 arrived onscene to meet with the propane service tech who advised a relief valve had broken on the in ground propane tank. Engine and Rescue both arrived with crews and set up for operations.

The Hazmat box was struck bringing the Chester County Hazmat Team (15) along with Ambulance 144 and Medic 93, Engine 33-5 was requested for a water supply as well. Crews initially evacuated the neighboring properties as the vapor was hanging in the valley, and then set up a handline for protection. As the incident progressed Engine 31-1 and Engine 48-5 were brought to the scene for manpower while the technicians from Superior Propane worked to control the leak.

After 7 hours on the scene the incident was placed under control at 18:57 Hours after Superior finally brought in a flare and burned off the contents of the tank, during the incidents 144 set up rehab due to 1st warm day of the season and crews rotated through the incident.
