For most of the day, Sadsburyville rescue personnel spent their Saturday training in basic rigging for rope rescue training. This class offers the basic knowledge needed to perform a technical rescue using rope hauling systems.

Many areas of our district offer a potential hazard to people where they could injure theirselves and it may not be easy to rescue them, example in a car accident off an embankment along the Route 30 bypass or a remote location like the Sadsbury Woods Preserve. Our members must train for these situations and carry the equipment to perform in these situations. Engine 31-1 carries the basic equipment needed to access, stabilize and rescue a patient.

When the situations become difficult or complex, fire companies in Chester County will call for the Chester County Rescue Task Force made up of different fire companies throughout the county who specialize in these technical rescues.

Today's training included different scenarios of descending a slope, stabilizing and packaging a patient and setting up mechanical advantage rope hauling systems to rescue them from the hill. Sadsburyville had 10 firefighters participating in the training and several others from the Westwood Fire Company.
