On Monday May 29th, 2017 at 1436 the Sadsburyville Fire Company and Modena Fire Company were dispatched to assist the Keystone Valley Fire Department in the unit block of Newport Avenue in the Pomeroy section of Sadsbury Township for reports of smoke in a dwelling. The caller reported a possible electric fire coming from a bedroom and they were evacuating.
Engine 31-1 responded at 1440 and Engine 31-2 at 1443 with total staffing of 9 firefighters. Additional units from neighboring fire companies were also responding.
Initially there was some confusion on the location, but units found the house and saw smoke showing from the exterior. Engine 31-1 arrived at 1444, assumed first due Engine Company responsibilities and stretched the 150' hose line from the front bumper to the side A point of entry. Firefighters from Engine 31-1 donned SCBA and made entry where they encountered thick, black smoke banked down to the floor and searched for the fire. The fire was quickly located and extinguished and hydro-ventilation was performed.
Additional crews conducted a primary search and checked for extension on all divisions with all results coming back negative. The fire was placed under control at 1502 with all hands working and Sadsburyville units cleared the scene at 1519.
