| At 0711 hours the Wagontown, Martins Corner, Sadsburyville and Westwood Fire Company and Ambulance Division and the Truck Company from Coatesville were dispatched to the 100 block of West Mattson Hollow Road in West Caln Township for a reported house on fire.
Engine 31-1 with a crew of 4 led by Chief Grossman made the response at 0716 hours.
Arriving on the scene at 0719 hours, Engine 31-1 found a 1 story rancher style dwelling with smoke showing from all sides and fire showing from the front. The initial crew of Chief Grossman, Firefighter Messner and Captain Loesch deployed a 200 foot 1-3/4" crosslay to the rear entry door and made entry into the house. Once inside crews experienced poor visibility conditions and located a fire in the living room area of the house. Firefighters then extinguished the fire and took the area windows out to ventilate the smoke from the structure.
Westwood Assistant Chief Scott assumed Matson Hollow Command until the arrival of Wagontown Chief Zeigler.
Next in firefighters from Coatesville Ladder 41 assisted with opening up the ceilings and walls where the fire was extinguished. Together firefighters from Sadsburyville, Wagontown and Coatesville conducted a primary search of the structure to see if any occupants were inside. Both a primary and secondary search came back negative.
Additional firefighters from Sadsburyville deployed a back up hose line to the fire area in the event a failure occurred with the first hose line.
The fire was quickly under control and limited water was used to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Nobody was injured at the blaze.
Sadsburyville units cleared the scene at 0913 hours. Volunteers then spent the next hour cleaning up air masks, cleaning and racking line to prepare for the next call. |
