By Fire Chief Adam Grossman
April 3, 2013

On April 3rd, 2013 at 0448 hours the City of Coatesville Bureau of Fire, the Modena Fire Company and the VA Fire Department were dispatched to the 100 block of South Third Avenue in Coatesville City for a house on fire. A call to 911 reported flames in the attic and the occupant was evacuating.

Minutes later units arrived on scene to find a working fire on the third floor. At 0453 hours a working fire dispatched was struck bringing additional units from the Thorndale, East Brandywine and Modena Fire Companies, Downingtown Fire Department and Sadsburyville Fire Company for the rapid intervention assignment.

At 0500 hours Engine 31-1 with a crew of 6 made the response led by Chief Grossman. Minutes later at 0506 hours Engine 31-1 arrived on location and staged behind Ladder 41. Engine 31-1 firefighters deployed rapid intervention equipment to the front of the structure as the officer in charge checked in with Third Avenue Command (Deputy Chief Dobson) and did a 360 of the structure.

After about 10 minutes firefighting efforts concluded as the fire was quickly extinguished. As stand by units were failing, Engine 31-1 was reassigned to cover the city of Coatesville from the scene in the event of any other emergencies. While standing by, firefighters assisted with repacking of fire hose used in firefighting efforts onto Engine 43.

Sadsburyville units cleared the scene at 0540 hours.

Units: Engine 31-1
