By Fire Chief Adam Grossman
March 30, 2013

On March 30th, 2013 four firefighters from the Sadsburyville Fire Company and Engine 31-1 headed to the Chester County Public Safety Training Center in South Coatesville for a drill to be conducted as part of the fire task force.

Engine 31-1 is on task force 2 for Chester County and many other fire companies make up the balance of task force 2 and task force 1. Chester County is part of a 5 county region that has a fire task force from each county. These task forces would be utilized at large scale incidents where the resources of that area have been drained. Through the years there have been a couple deployments including the Hopewell Woods Fire of 2012 in Berks County.

Once at the PSTC, a brief class room session was conducted to review for the day's operations. In addition a lot of paperwork was completed by each company involved.

The task forces then broke up and headed to the Bellaire Industrial Park in Sadsbury Township for relay pumping operations. Task Force 1 operated on Waverly Boulevard in Valley Township and Task Force 2 operated on Gunnard Carlson Drive in Sadsbury Township.

Engine 31-1 was supplied by Engine 52-1 that was discharging in to 1500' of 5" supply line and was being supplied by Engine 35 that was discharging in to 1500' of 5" supply line and connected to the hydrant. Engine 31-1 utilized its deck gun and a portable deck gun from Engine 35 where it flowed approximately 1050 gallons per minute. Once this evolution was concluded, Engine 31-1 was switched out for Engine 47-2 to complete the same task.

The day was a success for all companies involved. This is another example of the Sadsburyville Fire Company and other Chester County fire companies working regionally to survive locally.

Thank you to the Wagontown Fire Company for some of the pictures.
