| The Sadsburyville Fire Company was dispatched to assist the Westwood Fire Company at 17:49 on August 9th, 2010 to 775 West Lincoln Hwy in the Hayti Section of Valley Township for a reported apartment building on fire.
Reports from the Chester County 911 Center were that a fire had occurred on the top of the stove in a second floor apartment and that the occupants were evacuating.
Chester County Fire Marshal John Weer was in the area and arrived simultaneously with Valley Township Fire Marshal John Sly at 17:54. The FM's quickly discovered that the fire had been knocked down with a portable fire extinguisher by a tenant of the apartment building and reported to Chief Scott that only assistance with the evacuation of the residual smoke would be needed. Chief Scott arrived on scene and assumed "West Lincoln Hwy Command" and held the assignment to one engine each from Westwood and Sadsburyville Fire Companies.
Once the smoke was cleared from the structure and the utilities of the stove were secured, further investigation from the Fire Marshals revealed multiple electrical cords were being used in an unsafe manner. These extension cords were removed from the residence and the tenant was advised of the importance of keeping these devices safe and in proper working order.
Command then made all units available at 18:08. |
